It has been an extremely busy year so far, with little time for posting here, or on any social media for that matter. But I thought I'd drop in to remind everyone to pull the lever, press the icons, or fill out the mail-in ballots. Yes, it's 'only' the mid-terms, but it's still important to exercise your right to vote.
An election day-themed political cartoon that was published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and the
Cleveland Plain Dealer this past weekend...and will be published in the Wall Street Journal next week.
I don’t do as many political cartoons as I did during my syndication days, (before thousands of newspapers closed). Quite honestly, with today's print media languishing, the fees that newspapers and magazines offer are typically a fraction of what they were - and are far short of my fees for other things. It reflects a decline in political cartoons in general. Most of the full-time political cartoonists I've known have lost their newspaper jobs, and have gone onto other things.
But there are exceptions for me periodically…especially in a volatile political environment, with several media financiers wanting to take sides on an issue, and I've been presented with opportunities to play in that realm. The above cartoon is an example. I've also enjoyed doing some political cartoons for special interest groups in this election cycle.
Below are two of six political cartoons created for the Thomas Paine Organization.
(Disclaimer: I did not write the concepts for these.)
Now, go fill out those mid-term ballots.
