Remembering Robin Williams - Mork & Mindy House memorial

A brief post in honor of the sudden, very sad passing of Robin Williams...

Like millions of others, I loved his spontaneous humor and hilarious characterizations. My favorite of his film roles were probably some of his dramatic turns, like "Dead Poets Society" and "Good Will Hunting". Even my daughter, who missed most of early work, knows him as the voice of the genie in Disney's "Aladdin" and as Teddy Roosevelt in the "Night at the Museum" films.

Robin Williams' first fame came with the long-running television show "Mork and Mindy", which took place here in Boulder, Colorado. Though most of the episodes were not filmed here, the pilot and the beginning sequence of each episode showed footage from Boulder. This included the front the house, and side entrance, as well as stores in the nearby Pearl Street Mall where the main characters worked. (The house sequence is actually a combination of two houses, using front view of the main house and one side of another house, one half block down, for the the staircase top floor with the unique triangular window and doorway.)

Yesterday I heard noises from my studio window and saw that there was traffic backed up on our street for most of the day, (an odd occurrence). I walked out and realized that the people in cars were trying to get a view of the 'Mork and Mindy' house a few blocks down. Apparently people had set up a memorial to Robin Williams in front of the house, with flowers, notes and posters.

A few photos, taken earlier today:

Updated: Photos on 8/14, (a great deal more flowers, etc.) More news vans and two helicopters hovered over the area yesterday, if you can believe it.

The owners of the house, (people live here--it is not a public place or museum), are being very accepting of this. I have heard from a neighbor who knows them that it is a challenge living there, with tourists often jumping over the fence to take photos, knocking on the door, asking to come and look around.)

A note left by a child:

Can't leave on a sad note. Here he is in action...
